A New Day

Thursday to be exact.

This Thursday was a pretty lazy Thursday for me. In between classes I just slept. It is probably because I stayed up until about 5 am Thursday morning then got up at around 8 for my 9:25 class. Oh well, I still went to all my classes and was partially alert! I was really sad when there was no coffee when I went to breakfast, but I still managed to survive.

My Sociology class was fun. We discussed human rights in specific states concerning homosexual couples. There are few states that give same-sex couples the same rights as opposite-sex couples in marriage. This is one of the big issues of our day so I think it's important to stay informed on it. I think everyone should stand for something. At least have a passion. I believe that human rights are important, but the subject of same-sex marriages simply isn't my passion. I am quite passionate about animal rights though! I was a vegetarian for a little over two years and I recently quite because I really like eating meat (I'm serious). I really don't like nuts and beans, even after two years, and those are staple foods for vegetarians. My iron was starting to drop and all of that good stuff so I decided to go back to eating meat for a while. I might go back, but I'm not sure. I think everyone should try being a vegetarian for at least a month of their lives. It takes a lot of self control and you learn a lot about what you can do with food.

Anyways, my IDS was so fun today! We went to an ELI (English Language Institute) class to discuss the movie "Crash" with the students. We got to hear about their cultural prospectives and share our own. They all came from such different backgrounds, some having graduated from a university already, others already had started their career, while some had just left high school! There is so much diversity right here at CND that you cannot feel isolated from the world. I suggest having a conversation with one of the ELI students because we can learn some new things about their countries and they could learn a few things about us Americans!

I'm happy tomorrow is Friday and I'll be sure to take pictures at the aquarium and post them in my next blog!
